In 2022, we will commemorate the 74th Indian Army Day with almost the same pride, fervour, and excitement, so that future generations can appreciate the sacrifices and contributions of the Indian Army.
The Indian Army was founded in 1895, but it did not have an Indian commander until the nation was freed from British occupation in 1947. General KM Cariappa became the first Indian to head the army on January 15, 1949. General Francis Butcher, the last British commander of the National Army, was succeeded by him.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the Indian Army, saying that it is recognised for its courage and professionalism, and that words can't express how important it is to national security. India is also proud of the Army's remarkable contribution to international peacekeeping missions, according to Prime Minister Modi.
