Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' Super Bowl video has been published, promising Marvel Cinematic Universe fans a mind-bending encounter in theatres this summer. As previously mentioned, Doctor Strange's actions during Avengers: Endgame have allowed universes to merge. The multiverse's door opened, allowing not just superheroes but also super villains to transcend their realms and assault alternate universes.

The Doctor Strange 2 teaser starts with Benedict Cumberbatch's Stephen Strange describing a nightmare in which he sees a decaying Sanctum Sanctorum surrounded by skeleton bones. The movie is rumoured to be the MCU's first foray into horror, as well as Sam Raimi's comeback to superhero adaptations. Raimi is most known for his incredible Spider-Man trilogy, but he's also known for his work in the horror genre, notably the Evil Dead movie. This is most likely a glimpse into the Nightmare Dimension rather than a dream in Strange's head.

While some may think Strange being forced to stand trial for his crimes after only attempting to assist Peter Parker in getting into college is a stretch, the consequences of the tragic No Way Home spell are already clear. The sorcerer is bound in high-tech shackles, implying that there is another police force enforcing the timeline's purity, one with even more authority than the TVA. For the time being, their true identity appears to be unknown.

Doctor Strange is brought through a facility that appears to belong to whoever has captured him - presumably Mordo, given his narration - but his old friend's monologue has fascinating implications. Strange's violation of reality, according to Mordo, will not go unpunished. Mordo might be referring to his own judgement, but he could also be working with the Time Variance Authority, which monitors and neutralises multiversal threats. Strange's activities clearly fit the bill, and Loki figures are expected to emerge in Doctor Strange 2.

A disturbing sight of what looks to be yet another Doctor Strange variety occurs in one of the trailer's last scenes. This Stephen Strange looks to have become corrupted by dark entities from another universe, turning him into a zombie. While most likely a mutation, this zombie Doctor Strange might be the popular version, tortured or corrupted in some way. This scene, like the rest of the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness trailer's fresh character and plot developments, teases an entertainingly horrible second solo trip for Doctor Strange.

Following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, in which Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange accidently opened up the universe, Strange is shown coping with the implications of his actions in this film, with the possibility of a multiverse collapse approaching. Strange's deeds will not go unpunished, as he is seen in handcuffs in the second clip.

The teaser promises to be unlike any of Marvel's previous flicks, and the surreal graphics are guaranteed to impress. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, directed by original Spider-Man trilogy director Sam Raimi and written by Loki showrunner Michael Waldron, will be released in theatres on May 6, 2022.
