WhatsApp will begin offering rebates this month in an effort to get more users and merchants to utilise its payments platform. WhatsApp's reward programme, according to Reuters, would focus on growing the user base for its payments service, which is built on India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) infrastructure. Peer-to-peer money transfers are expected to receive cashback of up to Rs 33 per transaction, while businesses are set to receive similar incentives from the Meta-owned messaging service.

Although WhatsApp has not verified the news, it follows regulatory permission that permits the app to offer a payments service to 100 million users in India, which is WhatsApp's largest market in the world with over half a billion users. WhatsApp began testing a payment service in 2020, but it wasn't until 2021 that it was allowed to expand to additional users. The Reserve Bank of India imposed several limits on the service's extension to new consumers at the time.

According to Reuters, WhatsApp would give customers a Rs 33 return regardless of the amount they transact. In other words, there will be no minimum transfer requirement to qualify for the cashback. According to the article, which cites sources, this would attract additional users to the platform, which is currently the most popular for instant messaging in India. WhatsApp is seeking to build its payments network and compete with payment rivals like Walmart-owned PhonePe and Google Pay by using its Indian subscriber base.

If users transfer or receive money using WhatsApp Pay, they will receive Rs 11 up to three times. There is no minimum transaction value, however customers who want to get several incentives must deal with at least three distinct people.

The requirements for receiving the cashback have been laid forth by WhatsApp. When donating money to an eligible recipient, users must see a promotion banner within the app or a gift symbol. They needed to have used WhatsApp for at least 30 days. According to the firm, WhatsApp Business is not qualified for this promotion.

If a user becomes eligible for the cashback reward campaign, he or she will see a banner or a gift icon on the app while giving money to a qualified receiver, according to WhatsApp's help website. On a successful transaction to a registered WhatsApp contact, a user would get Rs 11 in cashback.
