Netflix announced on June 12 that the super-popular South Korean television series Squid Game would return for a second season. Viewers will be introduced to the "lover" of the show's robotic doll Young-hee in the upcoming season, according to a brief teaser posted by the streaming site.
The show follows the exploits of hundreds of cash-strapped people who agree to take part in a dangerous children's game in exchange for an enticing prize. The play, directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk, focuses on class imbalance.

The second season of Squid Game is expected to premiere in late 2023 or early 2024. The show received worldwide attention and appreciation when it premiered in September 2021. It eclipsed Bridgerton, an English romance drama, as Netflix's most-watched show.
